Labor Day Weekend Part II (8-29-03)
Anyway, moving right along . . . once across the lake, the
river started to flow as did the beer. |
After a couple of non-photogenic hours, we came upon a rope tied to a
tree. As usual, I proceeded to hurt myself. The first pass
went pretty well. The water is a bit shallow, but really not too
bad.
 |
The second pass though, I landed a bit too far out and for a while there
(until the next beer), I thought I'd broke all of my toes (they're just
fine though).
 |
Not having learned my lesson from before, we soon came upon a bridge
that was just begging to be jumped from. Don't worry mom and dad,
I was the last of six people to do it and everything went just fine.
 |
Now we come to the real trouble of the trip. We were nearly home
(the other two canoes had long since returned), when for what ever
reason, we dumped it. It was like one minute we were fine, the
next not so much. The bailing process started, but those squirt
guns were no match for the huge amount of water.
 |
The cooler didn't work so hot either.
 |
The only solution was to dump the whole thing. We spent quite a
bit of time picking up beer cans and my shoes.
 |
Back at the cabin, it was time for food, and man did we need it.
 |
After some grub, the sun was just setting so we walked down to Lake Superior
and catch the sunset.
 |
The next morning we again set out for a quick paddle down to the lake.
|
Not too much exciting, but Ed did manage to catch three turtles.
|
And the final picture, the beach (which incidentally had another bridge
to jump off).
